Course Overview

Build a Solid Foundation in Vibration Analysis

This course is designed for maintenance technicians, reliability engineers, and inspectors entering the field of predictive maintenance. You will learn the fundamental theory, measurement principles, and basic diagnostic techniques required to achieve CMVA Category I certification.

By the end of the program you will be able to collect vibration data, interpret basic vibration signatures, identify common fault conditions, and generate a machine health report.

Curriculum

Introduction to vibration — displacement, velocity, and acceleration
Units, frequency, amplitude, and phase relationships
Vibration signal types: periodic, random, transient
Measurement transducers — accelerometers, velocity probes, proximity probes
Sensor mounting techniques and frequency range limitations
Data collection instruments and data routes
ISO 10816-3 vibration severity classification
Introduction to FFT spectrum analysis
Time waveform interpretation
Imbalance, misalignment — identification fundamentals
Bearing defect frequencies — BPFO, BPFI, BSF, FTF (introduction)
Database trending and alert/alarm limits
Machine history and corrective action reports
CMVA Cat I exam preparation and practice questions
